The Travel Program

West Chester Hoops Travel Basketball is intended to provide a level of greater competition beyond what our rec program offers. All teams will compete in the Inter-County Basketball Association (ICBA).

Teams start practice in November and play games December through March, which includes a league schedule (including playoffs) as well as pre-season tournament. Opponents generally reside in Montgomery, Bucks, and Delaware counties, most within a 45-minute radius.

The ICBA will consist of a 12-game regular season, six games will be played at home and six away.  Generally, the away games are on weekends but there could be an occasional weeknight away game.

West Chester Hoops will attempt to schedule all weekday games at home to cut down on travel time during the school week.

  • All players must register for tryouts and complete waivers in order to be considered for a team.
  • Players are not guaranteed automatic succession to the next grade level for the next season. Players must tryout for their respective teams each year.
  • Players will receive a jersey, shorts, and backpack.
  • Each team will have between 10-12 practices.
  • 1 pre-season tournament
  • 6 home games, 6 away games

*Travel basketball is only available to those who participate in the winter rec league.

Commitment

It is expected that all players and families will be committed to the goals of improving as a team, supporting continued growth and producing a winning basketball product during their participation with our Travel Basketball Program. It should be understood that while the players, coaches and fans may be playing "away" West Chester Hoops, you are still representing our community and subject to both the ICBA rules and regulations as well as the West Chester Hoops conduct policies. When making the team the coach is expecting that basketball is 2nd only to academics during the season.  Other sports should not be interfering with the winter sport of Travel Basketball beginning Nov 27th and ending March.

Playing time

The travel program is competitive play. The Head Coach is in control of  playing time.  Skills, attitude and commitment along with other factors are all acceptable variables why your child may not be getting as much playing time as others.  Our rec program DOES guarantee equal playing time if that is the route you want to pursue.

Season duration
Practices will usually be1X per week in Nov-Feb. There is a preseason ICBA tournament which your registration cost covers in late Nov/early Dec while the regular season begins middle of Dec and runs through middle of Feb.  Playoffs begin Feb and run through beginning of March.

We typically have 1 team per grade however the directors may consider a 2nd team at a specific grade if there is a competitive A team(div 1 or 2) and more than enough children to field a competitive 6 team intramural program.
